Which art should I learn?

Although every art is a complete system unto themselves and work perfectly fine alone in a self-defense situation, you'll find that many arts are complimentary to each other and have different strengths. Furthermore, the more absorption into any martial art(s) and the more hours you train in any martial art(s), the faster and better you will become at each different art and a fighting in general. You never know when you are going to be attacked, as such; it makes sense to train as hard and as often as your body can safely handle sooner rather than later.

Why should I participate in what you have to offer?

The reasons for training at Fighting Method University are to gain real world self-defense methods which are practiced by law enforcement, military and bodyguards world-wide in a dedicated, yet calm, atmosphere. We focus on learning how to end fights.

Is this a sport?

Although some of what we do can be applied to sport application, our primary focus is on combative fighting in an all attack / counter-attack in order to end violent confrontations as quickly and effectively as possible.

Do you have childrens classes?

Fighting Method University does not currently have childrens classes. If your child is mature enough to participate (mentally and physically) in the adult classes, that is always an option that we can discuss. We are considering the addition of a children's program (ages 10+). If interested, please contact us for details, an interview time and to be considered for the waiting list. If your child is under 10, we can assist you in finding an excellent facility that focuses on programs geared for younger children.

What is better; stand up fighting or grappling?

This is an extremely difficult question to answer since neither is better or worse per say. Each have their strengths and weakness. One could argue that stand up fighting is the safest and where you'd want to be. However, many real fights can (and do) end up on the ground. It is important to be prepared to fight from any position. In either case, training to end the confrontation as quickly and effectively as possible is paramount.

How physical is the training? I have a bad _____.

There are very few things that would prevent anyone from learning the combative arts so that they could be effective at defending themselves. Also, you don't have to do anything that you are not comfortable in doing. Obviously the overall goal is to learn how to fight and to do that, you must eventually do so under some stressful conditions (meaning, you can not learn how to fight until you test what you are doing versus someone who is fighting back); but this does not have to take place until you feel that you are prepared.

Further, all joint manipulation, chokes, holds and throws are taught static at first and supervised by a certified martial arts professional. We train hard, but with safety as our primary concern. After all, it would do nothing but hinder progress if anyone was injured during training.

I'm female and I'm thinking of participating. Are your courses made for people of lesser size?
